  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Coat chicken pieces in this mixture.
  2. Dip each coated piece into the beaten egg.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken for about 5–7 minutes until golden brown.
  4. In another saucepan, whisk soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil together. Add garlic and ginger.
  5. Create a slurry using cornstarch and water; add to the saucepan while stirring until thickened.
  6. Combine fried chicken with the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  7. Serve immediately over cooked rice or alongside steamed broccoli.
