  • Baking powder
  • Eggs
  • Buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil
  • Vanilla extract
  • Oreo cookies (for frosting and decoration)
  • Edible candy eyes
  • Black licorice (for spider legs)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line muffin pans with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix into dry ingredients until just combined. Stir in hot water or coffee until smooth.
  4. Fill each liner two-thirds full with batter. Bake for 18-22 minutes until a skewer comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.
  5. Crush Oreo cookies for frosting and mix softened butter with powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Fold in crushed Oreos.
  6. Frost cooled cupcakes generously with the Oreo buttercream.
  7. Decorate each cupcake with an Oreo or chocolate candy for the spider body, edible eyes on top, and black licorice legs.
