  • 23 lb flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1 large orange, juiced
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, roughly chopped
  • Spices: cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper (optional), black pepper, salt
  • Preparation Steps:

Instructions

  1. Juice the orange and limes into a bowl.
  2. Whisk together the citrus juices with olive oil, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and optional jalapeño for heat.
  4. Add spices: cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper (if using), black pepper, and salt; mix well.
  5. Score the steak lightly on both sides for better marinade absorption.
  6. Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish; pour marinade over it and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  7. Lightly grease the slow cooker; layer onions at the bottom.
  8. Place marinated steak on top of onions; cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours until shreddable.
  9. Remove steak from the slow cooker; shred with forks and return to mix with juices before serving.
