  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  5. Fold the mashed bananas into the butter and sugar mixture gently.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  8. Fold in chocolate chips (and optional nuts) evenly into the batter.
  9. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18-22 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
  10. Allow cooling before transferring to a wire rack.
